What do you think God expects from you? Just this: Live in his presence, his holy reverence, follow the road he sets out for you, love him, serve god, YOUR GOD, with everything you have in you, obey the commandments and regulations of God that I am commanding you today – LIVE A GOOD LIFE. ( Deut 10:12-13)
The Lord wants us to live a good life. He expects us to live a good life. He wants us to live an amazing life here on earth enjoying all the things that He has made for us. He wants us to live and enjoy the GOOD LIFE in his presence. That’s cool, but really WHAT IS THE GOOD LIFE?
When someone tells you that he has a Rolls Royce, he’s a billionaire, he can shop at all the designer stores, has a villa in Southern France, a house in Beverly Hills and a Beachfront Property in Hawaii, then some of us may think that, “Wow, that guy has it good. He’s living the good life.”
Then, what if the guy continues on to tell you that his wife left him for his younger modelesque butler and his son’s a drug addict and he’s generally miserable, how would you react? Not so good, huh? Some of us may ask, “What then is the Good life?”
Our definition of the GOOD LIFE is different from God’s definition of the Good Life. When God tells us to live the GOOD LIFE, He’s not telling us to go get rich and buy cars, jewelry and be all rock stars. No! He didn’t tell us to be lustful, greedy and proud. NO!
God’s definition of the Good Life is to live the life that he has purposed for us, and live it well according to his commandments and while in his presence. It may sound like God is dictating us to DO THIS, DO THAT and we may reject that because we don’t like being told what to do. However, it’s not like that! NOT AT ALL!
God in all his amazing goodness basically is telling us to GO! LIVE THE GOOD LIFE! Enjoy the life that he gave us while doing the things He has meant for us to do.
Although sometimes it’s not that easy. Most of the time, living the good life could be a challenge. It’s hard to leave behind the worldly things that seem pleasurable. It’s hard to do the things he wants us to do because we could get oppressed, left out or we totally need to change or let go of things that we don’t want to let go of. Sometimes, living the good life can also mean that we have to go against the things we used to do or give us the most temporary happiness.
There are also times where living the Good life that God wants us to live can be a real battle because sometimes, we feel that he’s asking too much of us. There are times when we feel what he’s asking is impossible. There are times that we need to go against our loved ones and society to do what he wants and it’s oppressing. But, God already knows if we can handle the heat and would never give us anything that we can’t bear. God has plans for us that are beyond our understanding. God’s ways are not our ways and sometimes, we could not understand why God wanted us to go through so much for him.
But today, I completely understood the meaning of why GOD wanted us to live the good life. This morning God answered the prayer of my family and the business license that we have prayed about, worked on, got depressed over, and suffered through for more than a year. The battle for the license was not easy since we had a lot of objections from someone who really didn’t want us to have this business.
We could have lied and cheated. We could have bribed the officials – which was a common thing in this country, but our family decided to do things legally and properly. We asked God to guide us through the whole process. We submitted all the proper and legal documents. We were honest. Although, it was long and hard, and our patience was really tested to the limit. There were times where we would think that it was hopeless or that we are wasting our time, but we still believed in God and soon we got our reward.
We finally got the government approval. The relief and pure satisfaction that washed over me after the decision has been made made me almost forget the journey and the struggles that we went through to get to this point. The struggles indeed had made the success sweeter and we have the LORD to thank for it. If we didn’t struggle, fight and suffer for this license, we probably would have waved this achievement off as purely ordinary. But, God allowed us to go through the whole drama because He wanted the victory to be so much sweeter in the end and for us to be so much more stronger than we could ever be.
Now, I know I am going to commit to living the Good life because good things come from it.
